THOUSANDS of Tanzanians have turned up for the commemorations of the fifty years of Tanzania mainland independence held at Uhuru stadium in Dar es Salaam yesterday.
Delivering a brief speech on the anniversaries the president of the united republic of Tanzania , Jakaya Kikwete said that in spite of some challenges facing the government there has been with a lot of successes in which Tanzanians can feel proud of them.
According to the president, among the successes are as the improvement of infrastructures in the country and consolidation of country’s borders from being invaded by intruders whereas he touched on the 1978/79 war where Idd Amini soldiers were badly defeated by the Tanzanian army under the leadership of the founder of the nation the late Julius Nyerere.
Kikwete argued that more efforts are needed to make sure that more successes are reached.
For his part the first vice president of the coalition government of Zanzibar Maalim Seif Shariff Hamad, congratulated the successes being reached since independence calling on for the full participation of the people on the writing the new constitution which shall provide a strait direction on how the country is governed.
The retired president, Benjamin Mkapa called on for economic independence rather than depending much on developed countries for our local developments.
“Most of us have been depending much on developed countries for our local developments, let us work hard for our own development and the dependence on developed countries be as a second plan...dependence is not a pillar for our developments.” argued Mkapa.
Vice president of Kenya Kalonzo Musyoka, expressed good relations between his country and Tanzania since its independence posing that it is the time for hard working among all people in order to enjoy the fruits of independence.
For his part the editor of The Guardian on Sunday in Tanzania Richard Mgamba, said that in spite of the peacefully anniversaries there has no good decorations of the city as he named the day as the “golden day” to the country which had to be made and decorated on each corner of the city.
He added that it was a day that had to be different from other days in such a way that even any guest from outside once land on our land could feel the difference taking an example from Ghana where all parts of the city were decorated during the anniversaries of the same day in Ghana .
Various leaders from different nations and companies participated on such an historical event to Tanzania which was covered by the parades, songs and various exhibitions from various sectors of the defense units.
Tanzania the then Tanganyika was under colonial regime for seventy seven years, thirty three years under the Germany colonial rule and forty four under the British colonial rule in which on 9, December 1961 Tanganyika got its full independence from the British.
